Day 1 : Central Valley

Day 2 : Arenal Volcano National Park

Today you will be collected from your hotel and transferred to the Arenal area by shared shuttle.

On the way you'll stop first at Poas Volcano where a 600 metre trail leads to a spectacular lookout where you can observe the main crater with its constant fumaroles.

Another trail leads to Botos Lagoon, an old crater filled with cold, crystal clear water.

Afterwards head to Laguna Hule, a beautiful lagoon at the base of the Cerro Congo Volcano, 11 km from Poas. This area is renowned for its excellent trekking trails due to the variety of scenery and terrain, from clay, to dirt, volcanic rock, and grasslands in a rainforest at 800 m above sea level. You'll have lunch here before heading on to Arenal.

Day 3 : Arenal Volcano National Park

Today you'll head out to see Arenal Volcano.

On this hike along the trails of Arenal National Park you'll enter into the tropical forest and areas which were once devastated by the the volcano.

During the hike, it's possible to see a great variety of flora and fauna and you can observe the lava slides of 1992, a large accumulation of solidified volcanic material ejected during the very active period of that year.

On clear days, you'll enjoy incredible views of the impressive Arenal Volcano, Arenal Lake, the Tilarán mountain range, and Cerro Chato.

Your guide will provide a commentary about the main characteristics of the volcano, which has been active since 1968 and many other details about flora and fauna.
 
After this hike, you'll have the opportunity to relax in Paradise Hot Springs whose pure, mineral rich, filtered rain waters are naturally heated by the volcano.

To boost the water’s beneficial properties, the different pools and Jacuzzis have hydro-massage for different body muscle groups.

Lunch is included in the hot springs’ restaurant.

You'll be leaving around 8 am today and should be back by 3 pm.

Day 4 : Monteverde

This morning, travel to the Monteverde Cloud forest by shared transfer and a scenic boat ride. The drive, although a little bumpy, goes through truly spectacular scenery.

The whole transfer takes around four hours in total. Monteverde, which means "green mountain" in English, is the ideal name for this peaceful, hilltop community and a very different kind of destination from anywhere else you'll visit in Costa Rica.

The small town of Santa Elena is considered the bustling hub of activity in the Monteverde area.

Once in Monteverde, you'll have the afternoon to relax or start exploring, optional night tours are popular in the area.

Day 5 : Monteverde

After breakfast head out into Selvatura Park, a cloud forest conservation project where you can glide on cables and zip lines through the cloud forest or take the Treetop Walkways consisting of a 3-kilometre trail and eight different bridges.

The park also has a butterfly garden hosting more than 50 different species of butterflies and a hummingbird garden.

There is also an Education Center with a large private insect collection, property of world famous entomologist Dr. Richard Whitten.

A Cloud Forest History walk teaches visitors about the natural history of Monteverde and all about the cloud forest ecosystem.

Day 6 : Monteverde

In the afternoon visit the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve with its 13-kilometre network of trails.

Here you can walk to "La Ventana" scenic overlook, where you can see the contrasting panorama exhibited naturally by the Continental Divide, a geographical feature that traces the principal mountain ranges of Costa Rica.

Here you are at the point where the moisture-laden trade winds blowing in from the Atlantic coast descend at high velocity toward the Central Pacific and Northern coastal plains of Costa Rica.

There are over 500 bird species here, including the majestic quetzal and the three-wattle bellbird; 120 species of reptiles and amphibians, and more than 3000 plants, including the highest diversity of orchids in the world.

Day 7 : Manuel Antonio

After breakfast, you'll be picked up from your hotel and transported to Manuel Antonio.

Manuel Antonio offers white sand beaches, cliffs, rivers, rainforest and a large variety of animal life, including White Faced, Mantled Howler and Red backed Squirrel monkeys, Two and Three Toad sloths, among other mammals, as well as a great number of species of birds. 

Punta Catedral (cathedral point), the bay of Puerto Escondido (hidden port), and the beautiful beaches with blue green waters are some of the main attractions of this park which is a great place to be based for some relaxation amongst nature.

Day 8 : Manuel Antonio

After breakfast, enjoy a guided visit to Manuel Antonio National Park.

Watch sloths and monkeys moving through the tree canopy, hunt for nocturnal silky anteaters, surprise iguanas resting on a tree and listen to the songs of the numerous bird species in the park.

If you're lucky, you might spot one of the 1,000 remaining endangered Squirrel monkey that live in the Manuel Antonio National Park biological corridor.

You'll have a 2 ½ hour nature walk and enjoy some local fresh fruits and refreshments at the end of the trail.
