Temple of Literature

Founded in 1070 by Emperor Ly Thanh Tong, the Temple of Literature is dedicated to Confucius and is a superb example of traditional Vietnamese architecture.

The ancient site features a pond known as, the Well of Heavenly Clarity, as well as pavilions, courtyards, passageways and statues. Everything is remarkably well preserved.

It's also the site of Vietnam’s first university, established in 1076, when entrance was granted only to those of noble birth. The historic buildings from the Ly and Tran dynasties have become a memorial to education and literature.
